Comment: Make no mistake: this would still be the guitar controller to have for any of the Rock Band/Guitar Hero games. It's wireless, works well with mics, does everything you need it to do and none of what you don't. Star power deployment can be a bit fickle compared to other controllers but that just takes some getting used to. The fatal flaw is that (thanks to the detachable neck) it's only a matter of time before the controller starts dropping sustained notes, then one button stops working (orange was the first to go on my first, green on my second of these) and then other buttons gradually follow. There are a lot of proposed remedies circulating around the internet for "fixing" a GH3 Les Paul once buttons have stopped working or preventing the breakdown in the first place but these at best will only delay the onset of button failure for a month or two (if at all.) It's a great controller but before you spend the money keep in mind that it's basically disposable and you'll be going through 2-3 of these a year.

Comment: This guitar was absolutely terrible. Not only was it completely scratched up, but only 2 of the buttons work.

Summary: Good at first, but don't expect it to last 2009-11-02
Comment: Don't get me wrong, I love the Les Paul GHIII guitar. My first Guitar Hero guitar was the X-Plorer controller and it was and is a great guitar to use with the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, but unfortunately it's not wireless. I got Guitar Hero III with the Les Paul on launch day and it worked perfectly. The strum bar was more quiet than the X-Plorer's, the buttons were easier on the fingers, the conveniences of customizable faceplates and a detachable neck for storage blew my mind, and most importantly, it was a wireless guitar! Fast forward almost three years later and it's not the same sugar coated story. I still enjoy the strum bar and fret button designs, but the neck is the flaw that killed it for me. Since it's designed to come off, the neck has connectors that let the guitar work when the neck is attached to the body of the controller. Over time, this connection gets weaker and eventually makes the controller useless. No matter what I try, the guitar refuses to recognize when I push the green or orange buttons.
If you haven't bought this guitar, I don't recommend it. It'll work great out of the box, but as a product you'll be able to enjoy for years to come, it won't meet your expectations.

Summary: Stylish controller for GH 2009-09-22
Comment: Pretty standard control for the GH games. Everything has worked fine thus far. I have not had the neck-coming-loose problem as described by some others. My first GH guitar, so I wanted to go with the classic Les Paul. Looks really cool, other than that though, nothing too special.

Summary: Retire this design 2009-01-18
Comment: The detachable fret board has a chronic and annoying problem. There are six retractable pins on the inside that have to be cleaned before proper function occures with regular (more than once a week) cleanings to make this guitar work. I discovered this AFTER returning two and then looking up online what was up with this guitar.
I highly recommend future guitar designs to be a one piece body construction. Don't be cheap, just make it right the first time.
