Summary: Some Modification Required 2007-11-14
Comment: I use the pelican cooler along with the Nyko "cooler of death" The pelican wouldnt fit with the nyko cooler intstalled so i had to get my dremel out and cut off the lip in the back and smooth it out so I could use them both. My one complaint like many other is when you lay the xbox on its side the cooler tends to come off. Right now I have mine situated so the xbox is laying flat and the cooler is hanging over the edge of my entertainment center. Another complaint is the LED is annoying. Its so bright that it can light a room and if playing in the dark its distracting. I'll eventually disconnect it.

Comment: I bought this cooler because I wanted a unit that didn't go through the XBox 360's power supply. Instead the Pelican cooler connects to the 360 through a USB port and your XBox 360 either rests on top of it (if you keep the unit in the vertical position) or...well, I'm not sure how it's supposed to mount if you keep your 360 horizontal.

That, in fact, is my biggest problem with this product. I keep my 360 horizontal, and using this cooler with it is awkward at best. Let me explain. This cooler doesn't mount or actually connect to your 360 in any way--instead your XBox rests on top of it and gravity keeps it in place. Not so if you lay the 360 on its side. There are a couple of plastic tabs, and you can rest your 360 on one of them and keep the cooler more or less attached to the unit, but I didn't want to do this because my 360 didn't quite lie flat with the plastic tab underneath it. It may seem unreasonable to complain about this since it seems to work okay if the 360 is upright, but the box claims that it can be mounted to the XBox either standing up or lying on its side.

My solution, which doesn't quite do the job, is to put the fan as close to the XBox as I can get it and let the cool air blow into the vent as best it can. I haven't had any overheating issues yet, but I also have a room fan blowing in the direction of the 360 and haven't played for more than about 4 straight hours (I also never had an issue before I got the cooler, so I can't say it's actually preventing anything). It's nice to use a USB port to power the unit, and it does have a pass through USB port so you don't lose your back port on the 360, but there's no switch to turn it off so you've got to actually unplug it if you plug it into something other than your 360 (say a wall port or the 360 HD DVD player).

I much prefer this solution to using a cooler that runs through the 360's power supply, but there has to be a more effective solution than this.

Comment: Product seems to be sturdy. The color doesnt exactly match the 360. Base mounts on fine, USB pass through plug and play. Fan is a bit louder than OEM though the fan is a little on the weak side. The product appears to work fine so far.

Summary: It works on 90 degree days. Nice 2007-05-10
Comment: I ordered this game due to Lost planet freezing my 360. it had room to breathe so i figured it must be due to lack of airflow. After the reviews of the intercooler, and the fact that my 360 sets sideways, this looked like a good choice. Ordered it, set it onto the end of the 360, and hit the LED powered button. This thing works great. Keeps the lower end of the 360 cooler, and makes almost no noise. The only real downside is it doesn't snap onto the 360, but its a small complaint. Highly recommended

Comment: The Cooler, as Pelican calls it, could easily be the best cooler on the market, at least depending on your needs.

The first thing I should note here is that it is powered by the near USB, thus eliminating the potential of damaging your product. It has been well documented that the Nyko Intercooler has bricked many a system due to being placed between the console and the powersupply. So USB is definitely the way to go.

For users whom are gaming through the 360 wireless adaptor, don't fret. While The Cooler does use the rear USB, it also has a thru-port hub, thus allowing you to use both the wireless adaptor and The Cooler at the same time.

The unit rests underneath the 360, and if you lay your 360 on it's side instead of vertical, it has tabs on either side of the cooler so that it can be mounted either way. Once powered, you can feel a cool chill of air rushing out of your 360's vents. While it is only one fan (compared to Nyko's 3 fans), I believe that this unit does it's job just as well, especially considering you don't have to worry about it killing your system.

My ~only~ complaint about the unit is that the base could of had the rubber grips positioned better for better sturdiness. It is just fine how it is, though.

This product also comes with a gaurantee that if it causes any type of damage to your 360 that Pelican will replace your console free of charge. That rocks for a 19.99 product! Especially considering that Nyko has left many 360 users in the hole after the Intercooler killed their console.

All in all, this is the best Cooler you can find in the price range.

Pelican plans to release another cooler in a few months that is MUCH like the Intercooler (goes through the PSU), but also includes a USB hub amongst video expansions and other goodies. I'm (hoping) that cooler also includes the great replacement gaurantee, because I'd be willing to give it a try then. So if you're planning to buy this cooler now, you may just want to wait for Pelican's new one if a rear-fan sounds more appealing for you. I have a feeling I'll be sticking with this one, though.
