Product Review

The Darkness II is the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2007 release The Darkness. Inspired by the popular comic book series produced by Top Cow Productions, Inc., The Darkness II is an intense first person action game that delivers a twisted and gripping narrative of tragedy, modern crime drama, and supernatural horror. Players will be taken down the brutal and personal path of Jackie Estacado, head of a New York crime family and wielder of an ancient and ruthless force of chaos and destruction known as The Darkness. The Darkness II stands out visually with its distinctive graphic noir style, and it is the only game that features Quad-Wielding: the ability to utilize four different weapons independently and simultaneously.

Ever wish you had another pair of arms? How about a pair of superhuman bloodthirsty demon arms that can rip a door off of a car or throw a metal pipe through a goon and stick him to the wall? That would leave your hands free to dual wield machine guns! With Darkness II, this is what you get.

Story: 7/10
This game picks up after the traumatic events of Darkness. Jackie, a mob boss with demonic powers deals with the loss of his true love. The game begins with a rival hit squad trying to take Jackie out. Critically injured, he must summon the Darkness to survive. As Jackie seeks revenge, he discovers that this is more than just a simple mob hit and it involves supernatural forces. Unfortunately, the story is told very deliberately and slowly. There are cut scenes within the missions, but there are also long segments of the game where Jackie is in his mansion and has to walk from 'family member' to `family member' and ask one question. This can get a bit...Read more

I got this game for the brutalness and the story, the game delivers but it is not worth $50-$60. I would recommend waiting until price drop, i got this game and got a $10 credit from amazon for preodering and still feel slightly ripped off because of story mode and online co op mode being so short. Also starbreeze who made the 1st game with so much amazing content(watching whole movies with jenny i you wanted in the apt) did not make this one so thats why it is alot of subtle changes most people will not notice. Again it is fun,but it has no replay value and alot of content cut from the 1st game. WAIT UNTIL ITS CHEAPER!!!!!!!!

first of all i absolutely loved the first 'darkness'. it is one of my favorite games. the story really drew me in, the gritty feel and mood and atmosphere felt just right, it was fun to play, and i even liked the soundtrack. i was very excited when i saw that part two had been released. does it live up to how i felt about the first one? well, it is different.

on the positive side, i love being able to use weapons and use the darkness at the same time. i didn't use the darkness as much in the first game, because i concentrated more on shooting. it was too much of a pain to worry about switching back and forth, so i stayed more with the guns, and there is probably a lot more i could have done with the darkness powers that i just didn't figure out. in part 2, i find myself using combinations of the two, and finding new ways to be even more powerful and destructive towards my enemies, and it is intoxicating. it seems like you can use your environment (car doors, poles, desks,...Read more
