Meet Two Fierce, Playable Main Characters
Back from the original title and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, former S.T.A.R.S. special forces team member Redfield is a battle-tested, founding member of the BSAA. With a reputation for superior marksmanship and phenomenal hand-to-hand combat abilities, he's on the ground and up against a new strain of evil.

You'll call his shots from the same over-the-shoulder third person viewpoint that distinguished Resident Evil 4, except this time you'll also have the option of playing as his teammate, the fierce, local Alomar. Whoever you play as, updates to the earlier version's third-person control scheme offer more options and promise intuitive interactions.

Learn to Work Together
The new cooperative game play element focuses on the realities of a dual-agent mission, highlighting the ways in which Redfield and Alomar must work together to survive the unexpected, while still allowing them to split up and work alone. To help you maximize the potential of this setup, two-player online and offline co-op modes ensure that you have options when picking a partner.

Steel yourself Against the Harsh Reality of Kijuju
An advanced version of Capcom's proprietary MT Framework game engine brings groundbreaking graphics and effects to Kijuju, the highly-developed environment where this game's action takes place. New, lifelike lighting schemes highlight the differences between harsh sunlight and extreme darkness, and when you move from one to the other, you'll have to wait for your character's eyes to adjust before you can see clearly, adding to the suspense and challenge of navigating this game's environs.

Face the Next Generation of Evil
You'll face new enemies with faster reflexes and improved AI, designed to be as dangerous alone as they are in groups and to keep even Resident Evil masters on their toes. Thankfully, they're not the only ones who have evolved. This game also offers access to powerful new weapons variations that extend your destructive capabilities.

And the updated, quick-select inventory system allows for real-time inventory management, as well as allowing characters to trade items and allowing you to place an item on the directional pad for instant access. Add all this to a detailed storyline the touches on what the past ten years have meant for Redfield and a Hollywood-caliber soundtrack, and it's clear that the latest installment in this series really does showcase all the elements at the heart of horror gaming.

Summary: Just awful! 2010-09-08
Comment: If you enjoyed Resi 1 and 2 don't buy this game, it sucks. If not, you might like it, it's polished if clunky. This is a bit like Street Fighter 42, a classic game that they keep re-issuing with extra shiny bits to get your cash... Someone new needs to pick up this licence and reinvigorate it!

Summary: Co-op heaven! 2010-08-23
Comment: My wife and I bought this game several months ago and we have played it almost every night since. It is that fun and addicting! You can tell this game was designed for co-op play with 2 players. Although you can certainly play it in single player mode with no problem--the computer will simply play the second character for you. This was our first "shooter" game and it took two evenings of playing to get used to the controls to the point where we could aim and fire the weapons fairly well. If you're not an experienced gamer you'll probably be frustrated by continuously dying the first couple hours you play until you get the hang of how to use your weapons. Persist past this initial difficulty and you will love this game. It has 4 difficulty levels, so as your skill increases you can put it on harder levels and still have a fun challenge. Basically, your first time through the game will probably take you several days as you take on a chapter or two per day. The computer saves your progress as you beat each chapter. This way you can either go back and play any chapter you've already beaten or else continue the story and go on to the next one. The game has lots of "unlockable" content as well as "downloadable" content if your game console is hooked into the internet: additional costumes for the characters, mini-games within the main game, etc. Once you complete the entire game once, you unlock a mini-game called "The Mercenaries" which is a short (from 2 - 7 minutes)and very intense game where you are in a confined area swarming with zombies. Your goal is to not get killed while killing as many of them as possible before time is up. This, again, can be played either single player or co-op with a partner. It's fun but also difficult and frantic. Also, once you beat the game once you can play through again in single player mode as either of the two characters, whereas before that you can only play as Chris, the male character. The game has lots of weapons (handguns, shotguns, rifles, machine guns and others . . .) that are found as you play through the game. One of the addicting things is trying to collect enough money (in the game you find gems and sacks of gold) which you trade in to upgrade weapons. Fully upgraded weapons can have unlimited ammunition. Replaying your favorite chapters with infinite ammo on your favorite weapons is a lot of fun. After you've played through the main game and gotten tired of it you can play the Mercenaries game mentioned earlier or even download mini-games from the internet for a small fee. There is a downloadable game called "Desperate Escape" which is just like the main RE5 game but with two different characters and it is great fun. Well worth the cost. The only negative I can think of is that since the game is violent and somewhat graphic, you can't play it when younger kids are around. We wait until our daughter is asleep before playing!

Summary: Description could be better. I didn't want the GREATEST HITS version. 2010-08-23
Comment: So I ordered from amazon because the description showed the NON-Greatest Hits version. But, I was sent the greatest hits version. I planned on paying a few extra dollars to have the original case. But, amazon and the sellers inadequate description made it so i got the greatest hits version anyways. Dear amazon/seller, please specify if its a greatest hits for the sake of collectors!!! This cost 24 dollars total. I could have gone to hastings/best buy/ game stop and gotten the same exact game for 19.99 without having to wait a week. Kind of weak.
