However, what it sounds like is a large vibrating motor buzzing next to the xbox. It's surprisingly loud. Also, there's a constant odd smell almost like burning but not quite. Even with the fan, it can overheat after long periods. We have the xbox in a basement (so cool) and after several hours of children playing rock band, it will eventually red ring the 360. After cooling down, it works fine again.
