Summary: OK for some cheap fun, get the newer versions 2008-11-30
Comment: Bought the bundled game and pad:
Game:
The game has a new user mode, good for newbies who need training.
It was not clear that you could only play 2 players if you had two pads (or the handheld controller), otherwise you must log in/out of your xbox to switch XBox live accounts between songs if you want to save your game.
There seem to be very few hits / radio songs with many being similar versions of the same old beats.
The animations are rather simplistic and graphics appear almost pixillated on a big screen HDTV.
Would have tried playing against others on XBox Live, but could never find any matching dance partner. I think most others have already given up on this one.
The quest mode is a pain in the behind because many of the quests require you to do things that most of the random songs do not have, so even when completing a song with high marks, you still fail.
Pad:
The pad sucks. My size 10 1/2 feet do not have any room to spare in the boxes on the pad, so I am constantly setting off one of the adjacent controls. My wife does fine with her womens size 7s. Doubly frustrating is that the pad slides all over the floor, and forget using it on carpet. This throws off the sensors so you don't get a consistent contact. I thought about gluing it to some plywood. I image this may be alleviated in non-carpet situations and sliding would be limited by the rubber-ish backing.
Altogether this makes executing many of the combos rather difficult. This despite the fact that I do well on the arcade offerings, and am an ok dancer in general.
Overall, This game was a bit disappointing after what I remember playing so many a time at the arcade. I wish I had read the other product reviews prior to buying. Looking now, I should have paid a little extra for Universe 2 or 3.
However, the game is ok for a cheap starter and my wife and I have had hours of fun playing. Any game that gets you off your seat is a plus. This one will make you sweat, so dress appropriately.

Summary: DDR Universe Review 2008-08-25
Comment: DDR Universe is definitely a very fun game that can be used to keep you moving. The only gripe I may have is sometimes the background images are kind of distracting to the actual game play and may cause you to miss an arrow. Other than that I would definitely recommend this game to everyone who likes this type of game and it's even more fun if you have a second pad where the competition just increases the fun factor and replay value.

Summary: Alot of fun and a lot of exercise 2008-01-01
Comment: I bought this game (and the XBOX 360) because I needed something that was fun that would get me to exercise. I have always been less than enthusiastic about exercise but loved to dance, so I thought it would be a solution. I was right beyond my wildest dreams! First, it is so easy to pop the DVD into the XBOX -- with the hard drive it saves what you have done so that there is no messing around with computer controls to get started. There is a progression in difficulty so that you start with the beginner 's Game Mode Lite (my grandaughter calls it Game mode lame, but I don't care.) The advanced modes are incredibly complex, so I know that I'm not going to run out of challenges any time soon -- probably never. You only need about a 4' x 4' space in front of the TV for the game mat, unlike exercise videos that seem to assume that you have a home gym with 20' of clear space in every direction. The songs are hot -- great rock (although I'm not as fond of some of the rap) -- and surprisingly, some of the slow songs are harder than the fast ones. You get a letter grade as well as a numerical score after each song, and for someone conditioned to school, you just can't allow yourself to be satisfied with a C, so you do it again. I had said to myself that I would do it for at least 20 minutes per day, but find I am not satisfied until I have danced for at least 45 minutes. And, I am sweating and loving it! Finally, for someone who hates to go to the gym and really doesn't have the time, this requires no more time than the hated treadmill currently cluttering up my living room (it's going to the garage this weekend and possibly onto E-bay after that). So, it is loads of fun, it's convenient, it's great exercise (although I find I'm just thinking of it as a game more and more)and it doesn't clutter up your house with ugly gym equipment. We've bought other XBox games and they are all pretty good (Never thought that I would be playing video games)but this is still the best!

Comment: My daughter who is 15 recieved DDR as a Christmas gift this year. She absolutely loves it! My son(13 yrs.) and my husband also get in on the fun. It is also a great workout. It is kind of like guitar hero for your feet. I definitely reccomend it to any age group.

Summary: Surprise- we actually like it! 2007-12-27
Comment: My brother gave this to my 6 year old daughter for Xmas. I thought it might be a silly waste of money, but boy was I wrong! My daughter is ADDICTED to it! She just cried herself to sleep because it's bedtime and we wouldn't let her dance one more song. What was the biggest surprise is that everyone tried it out and loved it. My brother and his girlfriend had a "dance-off" and he's buying one for himself. Even my 62 year old father tried it out. Plus it's not only fun to do but fun to watch. Perfect for parties!
