Summary: Think GTA, just replace the guns with slingshots and cars with bicycles... 2008-12-20
Comment: It took me a long time to finally sit down and play this game because I simply thought it was a "kid's version of GTA". And to be honest, that's what it pretty much is....but it's fun as hell! Instead of hitting the streets taking down drug dealers and the mob you're storming the halls of a local boarding school taking out every clique who crosses you and having immense fun doing it.
The premise may sound pretty childish as a sub par rendition of a GTA story but it's actually very fun and interesting, as Rockstar has not really developed a sandbox game quite like this. There's many reused devices from the GTA games (such as getting busted and losing your weapons or mission markers) but at the same time there's enough unique things in it distract you from them.
Graphic-wise, I think this one of the more beautiful games Rockstar has released on the 360. If you have an HDTV, you can really appreciate this, as everything looks much more colorful and vibrant than the regular SD version. However, whether you play it in HD or not, it does look nice.
The story is pretty straightforward, as you'll have to run around the school doing missions for each of the school's main cliques who will eventually grow to respect you as you do more missions for them. Admittedly, it is not a long game but the missions are fun enough and vary in difficulty and length to provide some variety. This version benefits by having even more missions than the PS2 version, so that increases the longevity by a bit.
The biggest thing I look for in games these days besides length would be replay value and to be honest, this is probably the weakest aspect of the game. Once you complete the game, there isn't too much to do besides running around the school and town causing havoc. There are small things to do like bicycle races, paper routes, yearbook photos, and other miscellaneous tasks to do but none of them require much time. As mentioned before, running around at any given time causing trouble can prove to be a great source of amusement but that can get old real quick.
Overall, I give it a 4 out of 5, as its great in everything but is ultimately too short of a game and doesn't have much replay value to merit a perfect score. If you love the GTA games, I highly recommend at least renting it if the concept still makes you hesitate. If you haven't played a GTA game, by all means don't let that discourage you at this game can be appreciated by anyone.

Summary: fun but short and a bit repetitive 2008-12-14
Comment: The game started off good but I found it to be a little repetitive and the city was too small. Overall the game was fun but after a few hours you will get the hang of this game and nothing new shows up. The game lasts about 14 hours at most and can be played through by anyone as the skill level is very minimal.
Not a bad game and if you get it for around $[...] it's well worth it.

Summary: Entertaining, and challenging at the same time. 2008-11-26
Comment: I bought an XBox 360 with my stimulus check last summer, and this is the first game I played. I haven't owned a video game system since the first Playstation, so I've been out of it for a while.
At first this game was clumbsy because I wasn't familiar with the controls. I soon gained better control of the game, and I was able to complete some tasks and get through the first major checkpoint. That fight was a bear though. I think I used every combo I knew to knock that big lug out. To get past this point you need to know your combos. get into as many practice fights as you can before you follow Gary under the school. I was fighting people just for the heck of it, and it paid off when I had my encounter with the first "boss".
The game cracks me up. You're going to love the big prank on Halloween! I thought I was going to fall off the couch.
The thing I wanted to say about this game is that if I had started with any other game, I don't think I would've gotten sucked into gaming again. I probably would've become frustrated with the control, and Craigslisted the system. Because this game is slow paced, and allows you to learn the controls at your own speed, it prepared me for other games, and I've since become an avid gamer.
There are a ton of things besides fighting to keep one from getting bored with the game. Classes, for example can be challenging. (I just wish I could get that darned frog disected in time) If you get busted a lot like I have, you end up doing detention mowing the lawn. You can also sneak into the girls dorm and make out with girls, and conduct panty raids. (By the way, I never did get that girl's diary back.) That's another thing, there are also side missions from the main story to get your charactor into plenty of mischief.
The game is huge. I bought the strategy guide, and there is a ton of stuff I have yet to do in order to finish the game. It looks like I'll be playing this one a while longer while in the meantime, taking in other games. I love the 360, and this game is where it all started for me.

the only buzz kill for me is the loading times, every time you go from one area to the next there's about a 15-30 second loading time.
it's not enough to quit playing the game, but it is pretty annoying

Summary: Not Quite The Game I Expected 2008-08-27
Comment: Having played some of GTA IV and not wanting to have so much questionable material around my wife and 2 boys, I thought I'd give this game a try in the hopes that it would be fun yet appropriate for all ages. Developer Rockstar did create a city within which you can travel and explore, as well as interact with different characters. I loved the different personalities you come across during your time in school. The voice work for the game is superb, and the writing is very clever. The graphics are pretty good for a game that was originally released on PS2, and I had a great time with the mini-games that occur whenever you actually go to class.
What kept this game from being great fun to play was the amount of repetition in the game play. Each mission had me running around the map to aquire or deliver some item with different bullies or nerds getting in my way as I went. This broke down into fighting with whomever was in my way prior to completing the mission, and then avoiding the school proctors or law enforcement on my way back to the "safe house". There were a few missions that deviated from this theme, but for the most part, it seemed pretty repetitive.
If it's one of the few games you own, you'll probably get quite a bit of gameplay out of it as there are lots of little details to experience in your time around town and in school. However, if you don't like a lot of repetition, and you own several other games that are seeking your time, this one might end up just being a 10 hour diversion.
