250GB Hard Drive for Xbox 360 (Generic)

Ok the 250 (generic) or any other generic HDD works great...BUT it WILL NOT PLAY ORIGINAL XBOX TITLES. But there is a fix. Go to link [...] or google xbox-scene.com and look up the thread "Xbox games dont work selfmade HDD problem" and follow the instructions. I had to do some serious digging to find this out. You will need a transfer cable to hook up to your computer in order to restore partition 2. The program used is "Xplorer360 Extreme2" you must run the program as computer administrator. The Generic HDD's are missing a working partition 2 file which is basically the original XBOX emulator and will not work until you do this. Otherwise this hard drive will only play 360 titles. Its a pretty easy fix but it still sucks you have to bother doing all this. it was hard for me to find the proper info to fix the problem so I hope my review here will at least help people that buy this HDD fix the problem a little easier.

I'd been holding off ordering this inexpensive 250g hdd from JacobsParts because of some of the negative comments on this thread (and others)about this vendor. Finally pulled the trigger. Got the unit within 3 days of ordering and installed with absolutely no problems - none. The only problem area (if you want to call it a problem) is the amount of time it took to transfer data from the old hdd to this one - apprx 1/2 hour. I was concerned because lengthy download times usually turn out to be problematic (for me anyway) i.e. freezing of the application, dropped data, etc. and, of course, in this case the data from the old hdd is gone forever once it downloads. I had some questions for the vendor before ordering the drive and they responded within 24 hours of my email. Bottomline, got the hdd in short period of time, vendor was helpful and it installed no problems.

Package came in earlier than expected. Which was good for me. Packaging was minimal and I was concerned that something could have been broken in shipping. However, both drives (I ordered two) were undamaged. If you are upgrading from a smaller hard drive to a larger oneyou will need a transfer cable. Luckily, my son had one already. You do not need any software disk to complete the transfer. The software that was on the disk is now part of the XBOX 360 Operating System. The menus to complete the transfer are a little difficult to navigate but work. I've had this drive in constant use for over a week or two and have had zero trouble.
